Hyperconvergence or hyperconverged infrastructure is being touted as a NEW solution to the problem of datacenter storage and computer sprawl. As IBM partners, however, we’ve had much of this technology at our fingertips for a decade or more.
Hyperconvergence is the idea of combining computing and storage systems at the hypervisor level to work as one large unit. While it’s been on IBM's menu for years, the market that is suddenly so excited about this is in the Intel space, where, at least until recently, every workload was assigned its own hardware and storage—without considering how much this design wastes resources.
The software industry, as usual, is skeptical of this level of efficiency, but we believe there is very little to be afraid of have based on our years of hyperconverged solutions using IBM Power Systems and Storage technology. The ability to work a system to its limits without exceeding its specifications or compromising applications is a very cost-efficient way to save money on hardware and energy.
Hyperconvergence allows large businesses to exploit every dollar spent on hardware—CPU, RAM and storage—while enabling every application to tap all the resources it needs at any time.
We believe Hypercoverged Technology is here to stay. Contact us to help your team decide if it is the right solution for your needs.
